Reverse engineering is the process of
duplicating an item functionally and dimensionally by
examining and measuring existing parts to develop the
exact data (physical and material characteristics) that
were utilized during original manufacturing. This requires
determination of the alloy, and heat treatment processing
of components.
Some of the processes of Metallurgical
Technologies, Inc.'s reverse engineering services include:
Microhardness testing through
the cross-section of a carburized case hardened
9310 alloy steel pinion gear.
Low magnification view
of the cross-section of a ring gear tooth. The
tooth exhibits a uniform carburized case hardened
structure. The core structure is quenched and
tempered.
